A PROTEST VOTE IS A VOTE FOR TRUMP

Hi again, gang, from the shores of the Salish Sea.  It has been the policy of this magazine not to endorse political candidates or, for the most part, to insinuate ourselves into the domestic affairs of the 22 nations we reach, including the one in which we live.  There are times, however, when exceptions need to be made and when news like the following makes headlines, that time is clearly now.

Trump Panics After Judge Sets December Start For Teen Rape Case

We are equally hesitant to engage in trial by media but from all we have researched, including reading what Trump himself has been quoted as saying, there is little doubt in our minds that this man is unfit for Dog Catcher In Hell, much less chief executive of a land so many have fought and died for.

Given the incredible viciousness of this campaign and the vilifying in which both candidates have engaged, it would be very tempting to either not vote or to vote for a candidate not in the running, simply to express one’s perhaps justifiable disgust with what American national politics have become.  But as First Lady Michelle Obama has pointed out, a protest vote is a vote for Donald Trump and all he stands for.

Is this man really the next one you want as America’s leader?  I pray to Almighty God your answer to that question is no.

Have a great week, gang, and thanks for the ear.

DYNAMITE FOR PEACE

Hi Rusty:

That was a very powerful talk during World Economic Forum Our future doesn’t have to be dismal | Earth | EarthSky

In two words,  Elena Bennett, from the School of the Environment presented the idea of “bright spots” – local success stories of people cooperating in sustainability projects. This positive visioning could change the whole approach.

Of course strategic governmental decisions are important, but even more important is people on their places doing the right thing and taking into account we are all have impact to nature. Every drop of water in the ocean counts, so this group of scientists gather information of all “bright spots” to analyze what worked for them. That could be good to learn at schools; learning not just to be a better consumer but also a human being aware of role and power in cooperating with Mother Nature.

From recent Ukrainian news in these regards is big “thumbs up” to activists who made local authorities in the Carpathians mountain to stop businesses from harvesting broken stones from small rivers as a building material, something which has led to the destruction of those precious waterways.

Another initiative of ecologists is to force authorities to protect Ukrainian virgin forests.  According to some sources, every day about 300 wagons of timber a day are carried out. Of course some  so-called “enterpreneurs” live just for the needs of the day without  thinking much about the consequences.  So, this time, government help is definitely needed.

Coming back to world news, was great to hear  Bob Dylan wins Nobel prize in literature  No doubts, the author of such songs as “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door “, “Master of Wars”, and “The Times They Are A-Changin’ ” fully deserves the award.

The BBC created a list of 12 more songwriters worthy of the Nobel Prize in literature  But that list was definitely missing John Lennon with his “Imagine” and ~ if to talk about Ukraine, Andriy Kuzmenko, who also promoted  “anti-war,” “peace” approaches.

There is an irony to such a pacifist as Bob Dylan receiving a prize named after the creator of dynamite.  But to me?  To me, that just means that there is always a possibility to change as Alfred Nobel, according to his biography, regretted profiting from the sales of arms and bequeathed his fortune to institute the Nobel Prize in an attempt to help bring about a world in which his creation did not kill people.

That’s it for this week, Mishka.  Be safe, my cousin.
