FOURTH OF JULY WITH DOLLY PARTON

Hi again, gang, from the shores of the Salish Sea. In the past, we have devoted this space to the comparison and contrasts of two nations who share a border and a birthday weekend and who are one another’s biggest trading partners.

In view of recent developments in Europe and Turkey, we feel it is time to remind all concerned that while we may, as Ms Parton suggests, send our soldiers out there knowing many of them will not return or return unscarred, the one thing our two nations do in fact, share in common, is the willingness to die for all those who seek to be free.

I hope ISIS has picked up on this by now.  I know Allah is weeping.

Enjoy both a late Canada Day and America’s Birthday with Dolly Parton When Johnny Comes Marching Home on A Capital 4th – YouTube

Have a great week, gang.  And thank you!

EU Signs Pacts With Ukraine, Georgia And Moldova

Hi Mishka:

One of the major news items this week was the signing of the Association Agreement to provide a free trade area among three Black sea region countries:

While much attention has recently been paid to the first two of these states (Ukraine and Georgia), Moldova remains very quiet in terms of media coverage. That is actually a good sign meaning the stability of a region on the border with Ukraine called  Transdniester, which has been seeking its independence.  This has been a source of controversy for Moldova in the past.

After spending a week recently in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, I came to conclusion that despite its relatively poor standard of living, bad roads, strange cityscapes with beautiful old white limestone buildings mixed in with decayed multi-storied ones of Soviet times, my impression is still very favorable because of the calm and friendly way of communication of people there.

They still are close to nature, many living by own households productions.  Their beautiful little wild parks are real relief from routine city madness. Lacul Valea Marilor, situated near the center of the city is a wonderful place for walks or meditation in a pine forest. nearby.

The region is famous for its wineries and I had an excursion to one of them.  It was about nine miles from Chisinau in a town called Cricova.  Apparently both Vladimir Putin and John Kerry have wines there, on racks directly opposite one another.

That’s it for this week.  Happy birthday to both your countries, Mishka.  Stay safe, my cousin.
